The interview process

  1. 1

    Application

    Official

Apply on careers.sig.com (the iCIMS portal) with a resume. For the quantitative systematic trading and quantitative research roles at the US, Hong Kong and Sydney offices, one application automatically considers you for both. For the London and Dublin quant trading, research and equity research roles SIG says it hires on a rolling basis and urges candidates to apply early. Discovery Programs are aimed at students not yet eligible for internships, and give an early introduction to the internship interview process. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the UK/Ireland for those offices; US equity and ETF sales internships do not offer visa sponsorship.

  2. 2

Online assessment (quant trading and research)

    Reported

Eligible applicants are invited to an online maths assessment (stated for the Dublin Discovery Programme). Format reported by candidates and a prep site: either a 60-minute Problem Solving Assessment of 17 free-response questions, or a 20-minute Quantitative Evaluation; topics include probability, expected value, combinatorics, calculus and logic; you get about 7 days to start it, calculators, pen and paper are allowed, and answers are integers or fractions. SIG does not publish the format.

  3. 3

    Online assessment (equity research)

    Official

London and Dublin equity research internships require a Quantitative & Finance Assessment run by a third-party platform (Mercer | Mettl); your email is passed to them when you apply. Stated process: Apply, Quantitative & Finance Assessment, Recruiter Interview, Interview, Final Interview, Offer.

  4. 4

    Recruiter phone interview

    Reported

Reported as a mixed behavioural and technical conversation covering your resume, motivation, market awareness and at least one probability or expected-value question. For equity research SIG states a Recruiter Interview step after the assessment.

  5. 5

    Technical interview(s)

    Reported

Reported: about 60 minutes with a senior trader or quant, mostly probability and expected value (Markov chains are common), usually two rounds and sometimes one. For Quantitative Strategy Developer roles SIG states a series of interviews including coding, mathematics, system design and behavioural interviews.

  6. 6

    Final round (super day)

    Reported

Reported: technical interviews with card, dice and coin expected-value games and make-a-market pricing, a group exercise built around a physical auction/bidding board game, and an HR conversation on culture fit and competitive drive. Reported end-to-end timeline is 2 to 8 weeks, most often 2 to 4. For equity research SIG states a final interview before the offer.

  7. 7

    Discovery Programs and Summits

    Official

Invitation-based multi-day events with interactive sessions, assessment-based challenges and interviews that give a direct pathway to the Summer 2028 internship; PhD Discovery Summits give an accelerated interview process. Some events are only open to students who will graduate in winter 2028 or spring 2029, or who are in year 2 of a 3-4 year degree. Applicants hear about attendance in October to January depending on the event.

  8. 8

Successful quantitative trading interns in London and Dublin are invited to the full-time graduate programme (starts September 2027, January 2028 or August 2028 depending on availability); equity research interns are invited back to the Equity Research Analyst Graduate Programme (January or August 2028).
